Our Commercial Director, Rachel Wesson, is well known in the industry for her impressive track record in championing Zafire’s trailblazing software solutions to our Aviation and Smart customers. Well, now she’s quite literally putting the trail in trailblazing by hiking a half marathon along the beautiful trails of the Peak District, from Darley Moor, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on 24 July 2022. Rachel’s natural diffidence meant that it took quite some coaxing to get her to spill the beans on the what, the why, and the who behind her decision to take on this challenge. She won’t boast about it herself, so the rest of us here at Zafire are going to do it for her! We’re 100% committed to cheering her on… albeit from our comfortable office chairs!
What do you get when you cross one commercial director, two psychologists, and one probation officer? Four fabulous and fantastic Disco Divas, of course! Rachel and her Mighty Hike team mates have all known each other for over 20 years (over 35 years in some cases!), they’re all over 45 years old, and they’re all gloriously unfit according to Rachel (hopefully not for much longer, she says..!). These fantastic friends for life have been looking for a way to spend time with each other, get fit, and do something worthwhile, so they set themselves the personal challenge of completing one of Macmillan’s famous Mighty Hikes this summer.
Rachel and co were inspired to take on this terrific challenge by all three million people who are living with cancer in the UK right now. Did you know that there are more than 200 types of cancer and one in two people will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime?
The Disco Divas have chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support because the charity is so incredibly passionate about providing the very best care and support for people living with cancer. Everybody at Macmillan is tireless in their commitment to both improving the lives of everyone affected by cancer and inspiring others to do the same. Macmillan Cancer Support are facing a huge drop in their income as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Because 97% of their work is funded by people like all of us, they need our support now more than ever. Rachel and her team mates have set themselves a target of £1000 (which Zafire has gladly pledged to match, of course) and these funds will help Macmillan Cancer Support provide their full range of services, from specialist cancer nurses to information booklets and support groups.
