Project Background
In 2009, working in partnership with Unisys, Zafire provided the passenger baggage reconciliation system for all Australian international airports (i.e. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, and Coolangatta), which combined have an annual throughput of 94,302, 000 international and domestic passengers. Forty international airlines, representing more than 95% of the international traffic in Australia signed up for FirstBag.
Solution
FirstBag assists the airlines in complying with the Aviation Security Act’s ‘triple A’ regulation, which was recently mandated by the Australian Department of Transport and Regional Services to improve security at Australian Airports. This software tracks and authorises the loading of all passenger and aircrew baggage on scheduled international flights departing Australia and international flights that operate between Australian airports. The project has been hailed as a great success and as a result, throughout March and April 2010 Zafire will be rolling out FirstBag to 50 domestic Australian airports.
Warren Bennett, Executive Director of the Board of Airline Representatives of Australia Inc. (BARA) commented:
“This baggage reconciliation system assists our member airlines to collectively meet compulsory security requirements for baggage handling. What’s more, it does so via an efficient, standardized process to prevent delays to passenger processing or tight flight schedules – two things we know are essential for air-travel customer satisfaction.”
