This agile innovation and simplified operational solution – at the cutting edge of mobile and cloud technology – is delivering on-the-go, up-to-date Flight Information Display (FIDS) information as smart as it comes for our operational ground staff.
Keen to merge multiple systems and data into a single mobile solution for operational information, the QantasLink business was seeking a mobile-enabled, scalable, shareable, extensible common platform, for easy rollout across the organisation. An IT-driven innovation from the QantasLink IT team was the obvious solution and, working with our long standing technical partner Zafire, we were able to deliver FirstFIDS. It is a simple, yet undeniably powerful flight information display system designed to enhance communication between ground handlers and ramp managers whilst on the move. A cloud-based solution, sharing data across the globe and providing instant access to key flight and operational information, this solution uses a simple, secure app to distribute all arrival, departure, terminal, and airport information across multiple – and mobile – staff devices, including smartphones and tablets, from anywhere in the world.
With growth in passenger traffic every year, the QantasLink business is constantly seeking innovative and efficient ways of sharing information to enhance the overall experience of customers, while optimising resources and reducing cost. In developing this innovative solution, QantasLink has positioned itself at the forefront of operational mobility. This is a pioneering product which offers numerous benefits both for the business and operations:
Business benefits:
- A scalable solution providing a cost-effective service.
- Minimal system configuration dramatically reducing implementation costs.

The solution has already enabled major improvements in on-time performance across the board. So far, FirstFIDS is live across 50 mobile devices throughout Qantas, providing instant access to FIDS information to Qantas baggage handlers, leading hands and operation bases in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney. In true Qantas IT style, rolling out the app and bringing more devices on board has been smooth and seamless, so the number of mobile devices is definitely set to grow.
Without a doubt, it’s top marks from Qantas for Zafire FirstFIDS!
