Workshop Repair Scheduling

Our client needed to improve its repair workshop scheduling method, which was currently performed by a single person using an A3 sheet of paper.  Not only was this manual process a full time job, but it proved to be woefully inadequate, especially when dealing with increased workloads or providing feedback for management reports and queries.

SMART’s Scheduling and Planning System was the solution that was chosen because it is a simple, effective, and accurate method of job tracking and allocating work to engineers.  The System removed the need for an employee to spend 100% of his or her time scheduling.  For each repair job, the most suitable engineer was recommended, based on their skills, the product, and the customer.  In addition, the system includes a diary that can be used to record annual holidays, sickness, and other absenteeism of workshop staff, thus helping to ensure accurate scheduling.

Our client analysed the effect of Scheduling and Planning on their business and concluded that considerable manpower savings were made, which were then focused in other areas of the business.
